Over the decades many people have been convinced that the best way to deal with a dirty carpet is to go out and rent a machine. We’ve all seen the commercials, we walk past the rental stations at the grocery stores, and we get coupons in the mail for 10% off a carpet cleaning rental unit.
The problem is that renting a carpet cleaning machine is a bad deal even if it was 100% off! Unfortunately, rentable carpet cleaners often cause more problems than they solve. How’s that?
The Lugging
It’s no fun getting one of those machines home from the store. You have to lug it across the parking lot, lift it in into your trunk, take it home, and get it into you home. If you’ve got stairs you planning on cleaning, the situation turns from inconvenience into danger. Oh, and then you have to take it back!
The Chemicals
When you rent the machine, you also have to buy chemicals to go with it. So you have to avoid getting it on your hands, and you have to avoid getting it on your flooring as you pour it into the machine. What happens if you only use half of the shampoo in the bottle? Do you keep it for the next time? (There might not be a next time) Do you pour it down the sink? (A terrible action that could harm your plumbing and the environment.)
